Village of Wheeling Station 42

Station 42 is strategically located on a 3-acre property adjacent to residential neighborhoods, with over half of the land characterized by wetlands, a water tower, a ComEd access drive, and a pump station. These environmental and infrastructural elements have influenced the design and placement of the satellite fire station, resulting in a linear floor plan tailored to the site’s unique constraints.

The kitchen’s patio is thoughtfully positioned to face the tranquil wetlands, providing a serene space for staff to unwind while also offering privacy from the nearby residential areas. This design choice enhances the quality of life for the station’s personnel while fostering a connection to the natural surroundings.

The exterior of the building blends seamlessly with the residential character of the area while embracing a rustic aesthetic that harmonizes with the adjacent wetlands and nature. This approach not only respects the local landscape but also contributes to the overall aesthetic appeal of the station, ensuring it integrates comfortably within the community.
